Profile

About Me

My career started in IT, fueled by a fascination for computer science. A profound passion to improve the lives of people in need inspired me to gradually shift my focus to biomedicine. Today, I am a freelance bioinformatician devoted to research on age-associated diseases, such as cancer, dementia, and cardiovascular conditions. My professional journey has taken me through various organizations: from small businesses to large corporations, in academia and industry, in basic research and translational settings, regional and across the globe, young startups and long-established companies. With my versatile experience and a can-do attitude, I am well-equipped to contribute effectively to your goals in every setting.

Services

From A to Z

Thanks to a broad background in bioinformatics, molecular biology and information technology, I can offer support at all levels - from troubleshooting software segmentation faults to generating biological insights, and everything in-between.

ANALYSIS

Gaining novel insights from raw data requires domain knowledge, creative problem-solving, and a methodical approach. I conduct analyses according to modern practices and your custom requirements.

  • Experimental design: Get answers to common questions that arise in the planning phase: suitable assay, replicate count, statistical power, sequencing depth, etc.
  • Mass data processing: Keep your hands free by outsourcing the processing of your big data.
  • Analysis of omics data: Over the years, I have come across a wide range of organisms, modalities, and methods. I will gladly support you with my expertise and time.

DEVELOPMENT

Code is the foundation of bioinformatics. With a unique blend of deep technical knowledge and a goal-oriented way of working, I turn complex problems into elegant, robust code.

  • Pipeline development: Wrap your frequent analyses in pipelines, for scalability, reproducibility, and standardization.
  • Tool benchmarking: The bioinformatics community often offers a multitude of tools for any given question. Let me help you find the one that works best on your data.
  • Algorithm development: For questions not yet addressed by the community, I can develop algorithms from scratch.
  • Assay development: Are you implementing a novel assay in your lab, but unsure about the best parameters or how to analyze the output? I am happy to assist!

SUPPORT

At times, working with bioinformatics software can be cumbersome. Given my strong IT background, I can efficiently troubleshoot software issues, allowing you to focus on your research.

  • Automation: Moving big data from one system to another — fast, securely, in the right format, and without intervention — requires robust procedures.
  • Installation: Good software management ensures reproducible data analysis.
  • Debugging: Cryptic error messages or rare software crashes can be frustrating. I am here to help.
  • Performance tuning: When algorithms consume an excessive amount of time or memory, code optimizations can make all the difference.
  • Databases: I have experience with a range of SQL database systems, including design, administration, and application development.
